renegade is around the corner and i have yet to pack, i haven't even made a list of what i need to pack. i'm just kind of not ready. as usual. this summer there's no excuse though. its not like i have a job competing for my attention. nope. its more like i am LOVING making new things so much i can't stop.
sometimes an idea rattles around in my head for a really long time before i actually thread the needle and start sewing. i doodle. i daydream. i wonder if what's in my head can really be made. and then i stay up way too late once i finally decide the idea's time has come. that's what happened last night.

feather headband by kaang
months ago i bought myself one of these oh so lovely feather headbands. i love the shape of it. and it got me thinking about my fascinators and how to make something that looked like this with my beloved yoyos. what size yoyos would i use? would i do a solid color or use different colors? how would i overlap them? so, i sketched. and played with yoyos. and sketched some more. last night it finally clicked.
things are quiet over at casa cookoorikoo. summer vacation seems to have a firm grasp and renegade's around the corner. i'm making lots of new things (like the fascinators above) but probably won't be listing anything new until the first week of august. also, i'll be taking items out of the shop over the next week so if there's anything you've got your eye on, now's the time - especially if its one of a kind. all of my one of kind items went last year in san francisco!
and if you're in the bay area, you should really stop by and say hi!
the winner of the $40 cookoorikoo gift certficate is being announced over at the brightside project today. let me tell you, picking a winner was no small task. there were 296 answers to the question "what is your favorite memory of both your grandparents?" anyone who has read my blog for any period of time knows that question is near and dear to my heart. we are lucky folk, the people with the grandparents. there were SO MANY GREAT ANSWERS i wasn't sure how i was going to pick a winner!
at the recommendation of my favorite people, i somehow managed to whittle it down to my 20 or so favorites and then put all those numbers into a random number generator and let that choose. so, you should head on over to the bright side project today to check the winners box and see if maybe, just maybe, its you.
thanks bright side project - it was fun! and thanks to everyone who entered! and even if you didn't, you're all winners in my book!
as i'm cleaning the house, preparing for the move, i am discovering the most kick ass supplies that i've been hoarding. the time to hoard is over. no supplies are sacred, too pretty to use. and if i'm not going to use it, ebay. i'd like to move very little in the way of supplies 2000 miles.
there are things, like the vintage millinery veiling, flowers and leaves above that i bought totally on a whim. i took them out from time to time to gaze at and then tucked them back in their drawer. their time has come.
i am pleased.
we've developed a bit of a sorbet habit in our house. we've made a couple batches of peach, watermelon and blueberry. its all so refreshing and perfect for a hot summer night snack.
the blueberry has been my fave so far.
here's the recipe:
Inspired by these pictures i took...
and this treasury list i made...
and the treasure trove of vintage supplies i've unearthed while cleaning my studio, i've been working on something extra girly, extra fancy and extra special.
and there's more where that came from. xo
